Auburn
Hills On December 11th "der Weihnachtsmann" took
some precious time out of his very busy schedule to visit with the children
and grandchildren of the members of the D.A.S.V.
The beautifully
decorated Schützenhaus was full of excited children anticipating the arrival
of the Weihnachtsmann.
The afternoon
began with a wonderful dinner consisting of Roasted Chicken, Klopse,
Knackwurst and Sauerkraut among other delicious foods.
The program began
with the awarding of plaques and medals to various members, honoring them
for their years of service and dedication to the club.
After the awards
were given out it was time for the children's games to begin. The children
played a series of games and were awarded a prize after they had completed
the activities. The games were followed by the event that many of the young
children had been waiting for, the Pinata full of candy. After the youngest
children had loosened up the Pinata, Emilina VonAllmen successfully opened
the Pinata with her second swing of the bat. The kids dove to the floor,
picking up every last piece of candy that had fallen from above.
Once the children
had played their games and received their candy it was time for the singing
of traditional Christmas songs in German and English accompanied by the
music of the "Vagabonds". During the singing of Jingle Bells ,"der
Weihnachtsmann" came into the hall with a mighty Ho-Ho-Ho and a wave for all
the young girls and boys. You could see the excitement in the faces of the
little ones. They knew their Christmas presents were not far away.
The Weihnachtsmann
sat on the stage calling out every child's name one by one. Some children
ran and jumped up on the stage eager to tell of all the things they were
wishing to receive for Christmas. Some children were more reserved and
cautious of the man with the white beard and red suit. Every child received
a gift from der Weihnachtsmann and went running back to Mama, Papa or even
Oma and Opa to open the present they were just handed. As der Weihnachtsmann
left the hall the children chased him, giving him hugs and thanking him for
the wonderful presents. He assured the children that if they remained
well-behaved that he would soon visit them once again on Christmas Eve.
After the "Weih-nachtsmann's"
departure, the Schützen had their raffle of prizes and the Vagabonds
entertained the crowd with their music.
The afternoon was
full of joyfulness and happiness. The families enjoyed the spirit of
Christmas with one another and with their friends.
This Christmas
party was one of the best attended in many years. The energy and excitement
of the young children running around and playing really made this afternoon
special.
The children's
portion of the Christmas program was organized by the Schützenkönigin, Joan
Arndt. She thanked the Weihnachtsmann for taking time out of his busy
schedule to visit the children at the D.A.S.V.
