Deutsche Schule
Metro Detroit celebrates the Old Year with our “Deutschtag” and the New Year
with the PASCH Award from the Federal Republic of
Germany
Troy - On January 7, 2012, Deutsche Schule Metro Detroit received the “PASCH
- Schools: Partners for the Future” award from Consul General Onno Hückmann
of the Federal Republic of Germany at Honory Consul Fred Hoffman’s office in
downtown Detroit. This was an extremely proud day for our school. Thank you
to Fred Hoffman for organizing this event. We would also like to thank our
staff, volunteers, and especially the talented and highly-qualified German
teachers at the Deutsche Schule Metro Detroit.
The PASCH partner school initiative consists of a worldwide network of 1500
schools which share a common platform of the German language and culture.
PASCH operates in more than one hundred countries with the strong support of
the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA), the Goethe-Institut (GI), the
Educational Exchange Service of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of
Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of
Germany (PAD), and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It was a
great tribute to our school to have earned this recognition and become a
part of this global network.
Our annual “Weihnachtsfeier” was also held at the Niles Center on December
5, 2011. Each class performed a play or a skit for the parents. “Bethlehem
sucht den Superstar” was performed both at the Deutsche Schule Metro Detroit
and at the Birmingham WinterMarkt in early December. All of the
performances were met with loud applause and cheers. Sankt Nikolaus was
greeted with many hugs as he entered the auditorium to hand out treats to
our students. The evening ended with pizza, salads, treats and holiday
conversation among the parents and staff.
This year we combined the “Deutschtag” event with our “Weihnachtsfeier” and
the school was honored by Fred Hoffman’s visit. The Deutschtag event was
sponsored by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA). The parents were
informed about the PASCH recognition and Fred Hoffman congratulated our
school and educated everyone about this award. At this time, many of our
students were awarded gift cards by the ZfA for their participation in the
program’s writing competition. The topic was „Deutschland: Seine Regionen,
seine Vielfalt“ . Each student researched a specific German city or region,
created a colorful and informative poster board and presented their project
to the judges and parents. We learned many fun facts about Germany, and it
was a great opportunity for our students to strengthen their language and
communication skills, as well as their knowledge of Germany. We thank the
Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) for all of their support in 2011.
