Heimatabend bei dem Toledo Schwabenverein

(l to r): Pete Petersen, yodeler apprentice, Styrena, yodeling teacher, Ralph Decker 2nd apprentice. Both apprentices are Toledo Schwaben members.

Oregon In case you missed the event on Sunday, April 4, 2008 you missed one of the best shows ever, not to mention also a very tasty Schwäbische Mahlzeit with the usual scrumptious desserts prepared for you by the dedicated wives of our members and their culinary male chefs in the beautiful Oak Shade Grove in Oregon, Ohio.

Stunde" made famous by Udo Jürgens, then introduced the Ansbachtaler 3 men band and announced the rest of the performers to the Publikum" and the program in store for us. He then followed with his 2nd song Zauberberge" giving us a mental interpretation of the Thüringen woods and mountains.

Of course what would an MC be without a few jokes and Herr Lusky quickly had the crowd in laughter when he turned into a comedian. This multi-talented entertainer also turned later into a superb ventriloquist and an impersonator reminding us of Hans Moser and many others.

The beautiful and talented singer Styrina who comes from the Steyermark in Austria presented her vocal talents with songs like Mariandl", Im weissen Rössl am Wolfgangsee" and Du bist die Rose vom Wörtersee" to Lustig sind die Holzhackerbuam" a medley reminiscent of the Alps which Austria shares with Bavaria in Germany. Styrena also turned out to be an Excellent Yodeler" and gave a couple of our members a quick lesson on stage in the art of yodeling. Although they appeared to be quick learners their chances of a stage contract seemed rather slim.

Gitte & Klaus, also from the Thüringen Woods, were a superb duo with medleys for young and old. They were not only entertaining but also got the whole crowd involved with song and junkeln". Their impeccable attire and charm, humor and wit got everybody on their toes one way or another, tapping or singing along with every tune.

After a brief intermission at half time the almost 4 hour program continued and Christian Lusky introduced us to his new song Rote Rosen" which has not yet been released in Germany. Then came more music and entertainment from the Ansbachtaler band, Herr Lusky's jokes, imitations and ventriloquism, Styrena's beauty and songs, Gitte & Klaus with their lovely medleys closed the show at 7:30 pm with all performers on stage and everybody joining in with the final song Herrliche Berge, sonnige Höhen".

Many members and visitors inquired when will you have another one of these fabulous shows" and please don't forget to tell us about it, we want to come again ! We had visitors from our sister Verein in Ann Arbor, friends and supporters from Indiana, Michigan, Findlay and Tiffin, Ohio.
