Macomb Symphony Orchestra

Clinton Township April has been a busy month for the Macomb Symphony Orchestra. After our successful March concert, we prepared and presented five performances for young people. Our Youth Education Concerts were held April 2, 2008 at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, where we hosted over 2,000 students from over 30 different educational institutions, both public and private, and on April 8, 2008 at Rochester's Stoney Creek High School where we played for almost 1000 5th graders from all 13 Rochester District Elementary schools. Our special guest performer for all of these concerts was Emily Hudock, the 14 year old violin virtuoso, who is taking the area by storm. She performed the first movement from Tchaikovski's Violin Concerto to some very appreciative and awestruck youngsters.

Now we are preparing for our Season Finale.

On Friday, May 9, 2008, at 8:00 p.m., at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in Clinton Township, Michigan, we will present Memorable Movie Musings", a concert that celebrates movie classics, such as music from Max Steiner's score for Casablanca"... the opening fanfare from 2001: A Space Odyssey"... Intermezzo" from the The Godfather"... a portion of John Williams's score for E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial"... and Nimrod" (Enigma Variations), recently featured in Elizabeth".

Piano virtuoso Leszek Bartkiewicz joins the orchestra for a movement from Mozart's Piano Concerto #21, the theme to the 1950 film Elvira Madigan." A graduate of the National Music Conservatory in Krakow, Bartkiewicz's award-winning style has complemented concerts in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Belgium, Japan and various cities around the United States.

We hope you can join us for this event.

And don't forget us on Fathers' Day!

On Sunday June 15, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. we will play a free concert at the Eastwood Beach of the Stony Creek Metropark. You can enjoy a wonderful sunset to the music of the Macomb Symphony for a memorable end to father's special day.

Tickets for the MSO's May 9th concert are on sale now at the Macomb Center Box Office in Clinton Township. Prices are $18 for adults and $14 for students and seniors. For more information, call (586) 286-2222 today. Or, click onto www.macomb symphony.org
