And The Band
Played On...
Dearborn
The Hungarian Arts Club hosted their 50th anniversary of the White Rose
Ball last Saturday Feb 2, 2008 at the Dearborn Inn. What a spectacular
evening!!
It began at 6pm
with a cocktail reception while strolling musicians serenaded the crowd.
When the ballroom doors opened at 7pm, guests were thrilled with the unique
floating candle table centerpieces and were greeted by a personal server
hosting each table. While the guests dined on filet mignon, a retrospective
photo presentation of the previous debutantes was displayed on the big
screen.
Three debutantes
were introduced: Chelsea Saul of St Cloud Florida, Cecily York of Livonia
and Kaitlyn Vargo of Riverview. Then, the Hungarian Arts Club honored all
the past debutantes and escorts. Each former debutante received a crystal
rose to commemorate this event. There was one debutante from the 1960 ball -
Sister Patricia Soltesz from Allen Park and two debutantes from the 1959
ball- Olivia Soter of Ocala Florida and Kathryn Rado of Burton MI who each
received a bouquet of white roses as well.
Lauren Mihalak, a
senior at Lake Orion High School and Peter Barilovich of Dearborn were the
recipients of the 2008 Hungarian Arts Club College Scholarship. Laszlo
Bojtos, the Consul General of Hungary was the honorary chairperson.
Harmonia, a band
from Cleveland, presented the traditional folk music of Eastern Europe,
ranging from the Danube to the Carpathians. Its repertoire reflects the
cultures of the region: Hungarian, Ukrainian, Slovak, Carpatho-Rusyn,
Romanian, Croatian, Serbian and Gypsy (Rom). Performing on authentic folk
instruments, Harmonia's music is drawn from both village and urban
traditions of Eastern Europe. The ensemble's performances evoke the full
range of human emotions; interspersing fiery, passionate virtuosity with
soulful melancholy and nostalgic yearning. Even at 1:30 am, guests were
still on the dance floor and Harmonia played on.
