Another Schwaben Ladies' Adventure!

From left to right: Liese Pletcher, Jeanne Reiter, Ingrid Grotloh, Janet Brown, Heidi Jarmolinski, Sandra Schwab, Karen Beattie, Katja Hartmann, Helga Milner, Joyce Steudle and Karin Hausherr

Recovering from another annual Schwaben Ladies' Get-Away, I write this article so as not to miss a detail. This year's agenda was brainstormed and organized by the writer. Our group consisted of eleven (11) ladies, representing approximately fifty percent of our membership. Ten (10) members (including one new member) and a guest. We left for our adventure on the morning of Saturday, April 14th. 2007. We carpooled and our destination was Grand Rapids, Michigan. We started out at the beautiful Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park where the annual butterfly event was in full swing. A treat for the entire family!

We checked into our hotel which was located in the heart of Downtown Grand Rapids. After settling in, everyone gathered together for a hospitality toast and conversation. We walked to the Bull's Head Tavern where we had dinner reservations. The atmosphere was cheery with character. The bar was on the main floor with formal dining upstairs. The menu ranged from tenderloin to seafood to duck. The prices were reasonable and the meals were delicious! After our wonderful dining experience we walked to the Amway Park Hotel to investigate". The hotel is beautiful a must see".

We then walked on over to the BOB". This is a single building with several different bars, restaurants and places of entertainment. After checking it out, we went on to Dr. Grins where we had reservations for their 10:30 p.m. comedy show. What an event; not just the comedians, but the audience was just as entertaining. Not to forget the waitstaff. Thanks to their inability to juggle" drink trays, several of our members received drinks on their clothes, I mean, on the house. There were three comedians with three different types of humor. Although the style of humor may not have been everyone's choice", it was fun just being there as a group and having some laughs. The show lasted until after 12:30 a.m. Not wanting to necessarily walk home in the dark and cold, some of our creative members managed to negotiate a reasonable and comfortable ride back to the hotel in a limousine.

Arriving back to our hotel, the bar inside was in full swing with music, dancing and plenty of action. Some members stayed in the bar and others gathered together in the hospitality room. When the bar closed our members again united for more laughs. The fun continued until 4:00 a.m. when the group had two choices, either go to our rooms and get some sleep or find ourselves being kicked out due to excessive noise complaints. Yes our laughter was that loud. But the fun didn't end here. After a short nights sleep, we all met in the hotel restaurant for breakfast. After breakfast, some of the members went on to The Gerald Ford Library to view his memorial while others went shopping.

To sum up our adventure, it was one big laugh! If this sounds like fun to you and you are the wife of a member of the Schwäbischer Männerchor and would like to know more about who we are, please call Ingrid Grotloh at (586) 268-0181.

Until next year.
