Sterling Heights The
German-American Cultural Center celebrated it's 20th Anniversary
German-American Day on Saturday, October 6, 2007. This prestigious event was
conducted by Chairperson Agnes Neumann with Co-chair Marianne Krenzer.
Speaking on behalf of the GACC was President George Schemmel, Jr with 1st
Vice-President Herbert Ochs. Honorary Consul Fred Hoffman spoke about
current German-American issues and programs. Dr. Mark Ferguson of the Wayne
State University "Junior Year in Munich" program received an annual
scholarship gift, and spoke in some length about the wonderful program.
The evening opened with the American and German National Anthems sung by
all. The GACC Tanzgruppe performed intricate and graceful dances. The GTEV
Edelweiss Dance Group also performed to the delight of a nearly full house.
Annette Koerner & Wilfried Mozer sang a beautiful duet entitled, "Grüsse an
die Heimat". The Michigan Sängerbezirk Chor sang "An der Weser" and "an die
Freude"..
The German American of the Year Award was granted to Mr. Curt Kitter of the
Austrian Society. Congratulations Kurt, well deserved!

GACC President George Schemmel, Jr. presented bouquets of roses to both
Agnes Neumann for her twenty (20) years dedication to the event, and also to
Blondine Klimach as President of the North American Sängerbezirk.
