Governor Jennifer M. Granholm has declared October as German-American
Friendship Month in Michigan. Here, with the German Honorary Consul in
Michigan, Fred Hoffman, she is presenting the official proclamation.
Hoffman, of Rochester Hills, noted that there are dozens of local events
during the month celebrating German heritage including quite a number of
community Oktoberfests. |

Certificate of Proclamation
On behalf of the citizens of Michigan, I, Governor Jennifer
M. Granholm, do hereby proclaim October 2006, as
GermanAmerican Friendship Month
Whereas, Citizens of German descent
have brought to our nation the gifts of law, religion, agriculture, art,
music, education, technology, architecture, cuisine, theater, and
exploration; and
Whereas, Michigan is fortunate to count among its population a large
concentration of citizens of German descent, including those who have been a
part of our state for generations and those who are new to the Great Lakes
State; and,
Whereas, The cultural fabric of Michigan is made richer by the invaluable
contributions wisdom, tradition, and history of the diverse nationalities
that reside in our state; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim October 2006, as German American Friendship Month in
Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to recognize, applaud, and
participate in this celebration and the many contributions made by
GermanAmericans that enhance the quality of life in Michigan.
