Festival Takes in More Than 24,000
Pounds of Food for Hunger Task Force
Milwaukee - It could
have been the sun-kissed weather or the anticipation of seeing the Wiener
Dog Races, but in the two-hour window that festival goers had to enter
German Fest for free on Saturday, July 28, from 1 to 3 p.m., the festival
took in a record number of non-perishable food items. German Fest amassed
more than 24,000 pounds of food to benefit the Wisconsin Hunger Task Force,
shattering last year's totals by nearly five times in the amount collected.
This year's collection was phenomenal," said Jason Brame, communications
coordinator at the Hunger Task Force. We were overwhelmed by the community's
generosity." Klaus Fromme, president of German Fest, expressed his pleasure
as well, adding, This was a great opportunity to share our culture with the
community and work together to support a great cause."
The Hunger Task Force will deliver all donations to 80 Milwaukee-area food
shelters.
About the Hunger Task Force
Founded in 1974, the Hunger Task Force has been a community resource
advocating common sense solutions to fighting and ending hunger in the
Milwaukee area. For over 30 years now, the HTF has been committed to funding
programs that help ensure people have enough food to feed themselves and
their families. The HTF is one of the only hunger relief programs to offer
the delivery of food to shelters for free. To learn more about how to fight
hunger in our community, please visit www.hungertaskforce.org.
