Continues funding
Heinz Prechter
Tribute
Scholarship
Detroit
Bruce C. Thelen, Chairman of the Michigan Chapter of the German American
Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, announced today that the Chamber has
approved continued funding in 2006 for three Heinz Prechter Tribute
Scholarships to support Michigan college and university students going to
companies in Germany to work as interns. The purpose of the grant is to
encourage more Michigan students to learn about German business, life and
culture by living and working in Germany. We are also very pleased to report
that General Motors Corporation will provide funding for one additional
scholarship in 2006. This is an especially gratifying demonstration of
corporate support for the program. The stipends are named in honor of Heinz
Prechter to commemorate the unparalleled contributions that he made to the
advancement of international relations between Michigan and Germany.
Dr. Ray Schaub,
who designed and chairs the scholarship program, said scholarship recipients
will be selected through an application and in-person interview process open
to all interested students who are currently in good standing at a public or
private college or university in Michigan and who have attained at least
junior-class status. For the coming year, the Chamber will provide a $2000
scholarship to each of the four scholarship winners. The internships must
begin in Germany in 2006."
