Schwäbischer UnterstützungsVerein, Detroit:  Wasn't it a good Family picnic?

Some of the DSUV members socializing

Sterling Heights The Schwäbische UnterstützungsVerein, Detroit held its annual member/family picnic on Sunday, June 11th, 2006 at the Dodge Park in Sterling Heights. Members and guests got together to enjoy camaraderie and friendship. Spending the afternoon socializing, playing games or just having a good time in general.

The children enjoyed themselves with different ball games and on the swings etc. Some of the members went around taking pictures of the activities to refresh our memories in years to come.

The Committee members had prepared the tables inside the Pavilion with white tablecloths; setting up the tubs with beer and wine. Walter Rothenberger was the Grillmaster and grilled the sausages to perfection. Many thanks to all the members who brought salads, fruit and baked goods to go along with the Bratwurst and Hotdogs. There was plenty to eat and drink and nobody went hungry.

We also had the pleasure to greet some members and guests from out of town. Walter and Aileen Rist came from Kalamazoo; Gertrude and Hans Daschner with their daughter Diane Foreman traveled from Prudenville; Yvonne and Gary Boelstler drove down from Lexington, as did their daughter Lisa Herr and her children. And last but definitely not least our good friend Art French (President from the Schwaben Verein Ann Arbor) and his wife Kathy. Thanks to all the members from the local area who, came to support the Verein. The weather could have been a little warmer.

We had Pavilion II, which is surrounded by lots of big trees, which kept the sun from really burning down on us, but we still had a great time.

The highlight of the afternoon was, President Rosch presenting Alfons Jankowski with the certificate and a pin for 25 years of membership with the Schwäbischer UnterstützungsVerein, Detroit.

PS: Just a little reminder that our quarterly meeting will be on Sunday, July 23rd, 2006 at 3:00pm at the Carpathia Hall.
