Weihnachten beim Detroit Schwaben UnterstützungsVerein

President Hubert Rosch preparing the Gehacktes

Happy New Year to all members and friends.

Sterling Heights The Detroit Schwaben UnterstützungsVerein celebrated the Christmas holiday with a party for its members and their families. It was held on Sunday, December 18th, 2005 at the festively decorated Carpathia Hall. Several members got together in the morning to decorate the Carpathia Choir's Rehearsal room. Thanks to the members and the littlest helper, Christopher, for a job well done.

The members and their families began arriving around 2:30pm. The Christmas party came in full swing after our President greeted and welcomed the members and their families. Member ladies of the UnterstützungsVerein arranged trays of sandwiches and cookies. Thank you Jane Horlacher, Vera Lottholz, Lisa Gerstheimer for your help. Special thanks go to the President, Hubert Rosch, who mixed the ,Gehacktes', one of the favorite sandwiches of our members.

Around 4:30pm there were bells ringing in the hallway and Santa Claus made his grand entrance. He went around the tables and handed out plenty of goodies. Then he took a seat in his redvelvet covered grand chair. President Rosch asked the children to come forward and either sing for Santa Claus or recite a poem. For their performance they each received a giant Chocolate bar. Walter Rist's granddaughter, Abigail, sang and also recited a poem in Russian. Children of the Boelstler family also sang for Santa Claus. With the help and direction of Walter Rist everyone joined the singalong of familiar Christmas songs. Following the singa long the children were called up by name to receive a goodie bag and a present from Santa Claus; with a big smile and shining eyes they returned to their tables to show off their presents to their parents. By now it was time for Santa Claus to leave and as he was waiving his goodbye he promised to return next Christmas.

Now came the raffle. There were many prizes to be won, and everyone was eager to get their raffle tickets. Thanks to all who brought a raffle prize.

Everybody, young and old, was enjoying a wonderful afternoon. As the members left for home they expressed their thanks for a great Christmas Party and are already looking forward to next year's. All the favorable comments from the people was music to the ears of those responsible. And in connection with this, we will say a special THANK YOU"' to AnnaMaria Mapes who arranged and coordinated this wonderful afternoon.

Our next meeting will take place on Sunday, January 15th 2006 at 3:00pm at the Carpathia Hall for our Annual Membership meeting.
