Sterling Heights On Sunday, October 29, 2006, the Detroit Schwaben
Unterstützungs-Verein held their annual Halloween Party at the Carpathia
Hall. Several member of the Verein came early in the morning and decorated
half of the hall with the Halloween scene. Entertainment Chairperson Anna
Maria Mapes and her crew of volunteers created a great and enthusiastic
atmosphere for this occasion. In his opening speech, President Hubert Rosch
welcomed President Art French and several members from the Ann Arbor
Unterstützungs-Verein; Erich and Ingeborg Mueller, Regina and Hans Wandscher
from the Toledo GAF Verein; Christina Griesser from the Professional Women's
Verein and George Schemmel from the Saxon Verein. He also welcomed all other
guests.
At
the door each person received a slip of paper for voting for the best carved
or painted pumpkins. There were 10 pumpkins to be judged. Judges were
selected by AnnaMaria Mapes and were: Anni Torri, Art French, Lucy Bausch
and Marcella Leib. They had a tough job to pick the best costumes from all
the dressed children as well as the adults. Throughout the afternoon they
watched all the ,masqueraders' so that when the time came for their decision
it would not take so long. The ,Sorgenbrecher' band played music for
everyone's taste. Especially for the young trick-or-treaters. At the door
each child received a bag with a page of stickers to create their own bag
for the goodies when the treating stroll would take place. Tables with
cauldrons on them had the treat for the children and every child received
several goodies, not just candy but little toys and trinkets. They were
pleased with their stash and could not wait to sample or play with them as
soon as they got back to their table. Each child had their picture taken and
received it with a Halloween Frame to look at it when they get home. We
enjoyed a snack, consisting of Bratwurst, Potato Salad and a roll. The
children enjoyed Hot dogs with Potato Salad and a roll. As always the
Kitchen of the Carpathia Hall did a good job with the preparation of the
food.
After all the eating was done, it was time to announce the winners of the
best Costumes for children and adults. The results were: the best children's
costume was Andreas Griesser as the Power Ranger. The adult was Roy Schulz,
member of the Sorgenbrecher Band, as a Buccaneer. Both received a monetary
price. The carved or painted Pumpkin winners were Miranda Coil and
Christopher Mapes. It was a tie vote. Both had the same amount of votes.
All good things must come to an end; so also our Halloween Party. Several
guests stated that they enjoyed themselves tremendously with the music,
atmosphere and the easy camaraderie amongst the attendees.
If
you missed this great Halloween Party, there will be another Party next
year. Thanks to all who came and supported the Detroit Schwaben
Unterstützungs-Verein.
