Sterling Heights
The Detroit Schwaben UnterstützungsVerein held its First Family Picnic on
Sunday, July 3rd, 2005 at the Dodge Park in Sterling Heights. Mother Nature
surely must have approved of our undertaking for she blessed us with the
most beautiful day. Even though not all members were in attendance those
present enjoyed a wonderful afternoon. Shortly before 2pm some members of
the board arrived and started with the setup of the tables and equipment.
Walter Rothenberger had brought his grill and later took on the position of
Grill Chef. John Horlacher entertained us throughout the afternoon with
traditional German OOMPAH Music".
Also a sincere ,THANK YOU' to the
ladies that provided us with various tasty side dishes. There was plenty of
Bratwurst, fresh from the grill, or you could have hotdogs, which was a
favorite with the children. For desert we enjoyed fresh fruit salads and the
people with a sweet tooth could enjoy cake donated by Linda Rothenberger or
AnnaMaria Mapes' which she decorated in a beautiful 4th of July theme. And
what would be a picnic without plenty of cool refreshments.
Everything just seemed to fall into
place and everybody remarked that it was an enjoyable and relaxing
afternoon. At the end of the day, when the time came to go home, some
members remarked to our President that it was just too bad that not everyone
was here and they are looking forward that we would do it again next year.
For this being the First Membership Picnic in many years it turned out to be
a total success thanks to our participating members. We realize the date was
not the most convenient,, but we really didn't have a choice.
Notice:
Quarterly membership meeting will be on Wednesday, July 20", 2005, at the
Carpathia Hall at 7:00pm. Come and attend the meeting. Hear what's new in
the Verein. Keep on the up and up of the coming events. Looking forward
seeing you at the meeting.
