New Orleans Please donate to the
"Deutsches Haus Rebuilding Fund". Hurricane Katrina has inflicted severe
damage to the 'Deutsches Haus' as you can see in the photos on our website:
www.thedeutscheshaus.org.
The 'Deutsches Haus, New Orleans', is the oldest German American club of its
kind in Southeast Louisiana. Established in 1928, the 'Deutsches Haus' has
been the gathering place for German immigrants and the descendents of those
immigrants for many years. It has been the focal point of German activities
and culture for the past 77 years. The 'Haus' would have a Volksfest
celebration, social activities, show German films (free to the public),
conduct German language classes, be a gathering place for various clubs, and
other German clubs, (Damenchor, Männerchor, Schlaraffia, German Heritage
Festival Association, Crescent City Homebrewers, NOLHAM, to name a few) and
of course hold an annual Oktoberfest celebration (including an Oktoberfest
parade) that ran for 5 weekends in late September through October.
This year promised
to be to our biggest and best Oktoberfest cele-bration (a major source of
funding for the Haus) with bands coming in from Germany, mixed with New
Orleans color and flair but, Hurricane Katrina has changed all of
that. Please donate to help rebuild the 'Deutsches Haus, New Orleans,
Louisiana'.
