German Cultural Center announces two Major Cultural Events Hamburg
Emigration Port" curated by Link to your Roots" & Bach & Beyond - An
Afternoon with JS Bach"
Chicago DANK Museum will be
hosting Hamburg Emigration Port" curated by Link to your Roots" a traveling
exhibit illustrating how Chicago's sister city Hamburg served as a
historical point of departure for the journey of hope for generations of
German-Americans. Having it's grand opening on March 11th this exhibit opens
simultaneously with another key cultural event An Afternoon with JS Bach"; a
full orchestral presentation of Baroque music celebrating the genius of
German composers such as Bach.
Link to Your Roots begun by the Hamburg State Archives, provides historical
research and genealogical information on the over five million people who
emigrated from Hamburg between 1850 and 1934. This exhibit highlights the
enormous significance that Hamburg played in German immigration for many
generations. It is of special significance that the Hamburg exhibit should
come to the DANK-Chicago German Cultural Center because of the tremendous
contributions that Americans of German descent have made throughout
Chicago's history. The Grand Opening will be on March 11th at 2pm and will
be available for viewing before and after the An Afternoon with JS Bach"
program. Admission to the Hamburg exhibit is free and additional dates and
scheduling will be announced.
An
Afternoon with JS Bach is a presentation, featuring the Bach and Beyond
Chorus and Orchestra with select soloists under the artistic direction of
Scott Charles Will. This event brings a full orchestra and choral
presentation to the historic Marunde Grand Ballroom of the DANK-HAUS. The
event begins at 3pm on March 12th and admission is $20.00.
These events usher in a new era of innovative public cultural events
sponsored by the DANK-HAUS Chicago German Cultural Center. We cordially
invite everyone to attend these two very significant events at the Historic
DANK-HAUS, located at 4740 North Western Avenue in the heart of Lincoln
