Heights The good Lord provided the Carpathia
Club with four beautiful days for our two summer festivals held in June and
July. Since our departure from Freedom Hill, the club has held the summer
festivals on its grounds, with some success.
Sportfest/Father's Day
Over the weekend
of June 17 and 18, the Sportfest/Father's Day picnic was celebrated under a
huge tent set up near the Schupp, at the back of the Carpathia property
parking lot. The Sportfest was added this year as a Saturday event and was
highlighted by soccer games and the viewing of the USA/Italy World Cup 1st
round game. Following the games, past Kickers were presented with gold and
silver pins for their service and dedication to the Kickers. The event was a
great time for all those that attended.
On Sunday the
popular Father's Day Picnic was well attended. The Kickers 1st and 2nd teams
played. The crowd was entertained by performances by the Kindergruppe and
Jugendgruppe and the Schwäbischer Männerchor. As the day came to a close, a
short but major downpour arrived just in time to cool things down. It was a
great ending to a fine weekend.
Sommerfest
During the weekend
of July 14-15 Sommerfest was celebrated. The weather man cooperated with
temperatures in the upper 90s, which contributed to a city power outage on
Sunday. Thanks to the quick thinking of the Festival Committee, and some
really excellent teamwork, temporary power was restored quickly with little
interruption to the festivities. Overall, the Sommerfest was well attended.
Entertainment included performances by the Carpathia dance groups, the
Croatian Dance Group, Sava, and the Schwäbischer Männerchor.
Many thanks to
Mike Talan for his excellent organizational skills and to his committee for
a job well done on both weekends.
Make sure you join
us next year because we expect these events to get bigger and better on a
yearly basis.
Hawaiian Abend
Save the date of
Saturday, September 9, for Hawaiian Abend.
There will be hula
dancing, tropical drinks, rain forests with palm trees and birds, and the
dance floor is transformed into a sea with nets and tropical fish. All of
the ladies wear their brightest, boldest tropical dresses and the gentlemen
wear their Hawaiian shirts. In keeping with the Hawaiian theme, Tradewind,
with Tony and Wolfgang Bering, will play from 8:00pm - 1:00am. Come join us
for a tropical evening at Carpathia. The kitchen and bar will be open for
your enjoyment. Check out Carpathia's website for more information on
