A hot topic conference comes to Detroit

Fuel of the future

Von Reinhard Lemke

Detroit - Save the date of Tuesday, November 29th, 2005, 9:00am-4:00pm in your calendar. The event will take place at the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC). The topic and the level of contacts promise to be worth your time, regardless whether you represent a German or American business in the automotive or any related industry.

In association with the German Energy Agency (DENA) and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor (BMWA), the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest is hosting the first of its kind conference on biofuels in the heart of the automotive industry. Key speakers from well-known companies in the biofuel industry will provide valuable insight into the fast-growing market of alternative fuels. The event provides the chance to connect directly with leading German companies in this innovative and rapidly expanding industry. The presence of key industry representatives will allow participants of the conference the efficient opportunity of an open exchange of ideas and opportunities for mutual collaboration for possible biofuel projects in the United States and Germany.

The timing for this event could not have been better chosen. Amidst the increasing awareness of the oil industry's vulnerability and oil prices that start to hurt many industries seriously, alternative fuels suddenly have become the focus for many businesses and governments on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition, government incentives like the German Renewable Energy Act and the very recent US Energy Policy Act of 2005, which President Bush signed into law on August 8, 2005, set the perfect stage for a dramatic change in the automotive production in the coming years.

Since the new Energy Act in the U.S. -comprising more than 1,700 pages- sets time lines for the production startup by the end of 2007, interested companies should aggressively pursue the given opportunities of substantial tax credits and various other incentives. Some U.S. States, like Michigan, even provide additional support on top of the federal incentives.

For further information and registration, please contact the initiator and coordinator of the conference, H. Juergen Hess at the Chicago office of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest: hess@gaccom.org or (312) 644-2662

You can also register online through the web site of the Chamber: www.gaccom.org
