Carol Alt - Grand Marshal

New York The General Chairman of the 49th Annual German-American Steuben Parade in New York City, Lars Halter, is proud to announce that Super Model, Actress and Business Woman, Carol Alt will be this year's Grand Marshal!

The NYC native, who was born in College Point, Queens and raised inLong Island, will be marching on NYC's prestigious Fifth Avenue come Saturday, September 16, 2006, at 12:00 noon.Ms. Alt, who traces her German roots to her father, joins the ranks of famous NY personalities George Stein-brenner and Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Mayor Bloomberg, Governor Pataki, and former Fox 5 anchorman John Roland as Grand Marshal of this grandest display of German-American pride and culture in this country! Other Grand Marshals have included Actor Eric Braden from the "Young and the Restless," world renowned magicians Siegfried and Roy, and former FBI Director Louis J. Freeh. In addition, Ms. Alt is only the second female Parade Grand Marshal since Nassau County Supreme Court Judge Ute Lally was the Grand Marshal over 15 years ago.

The "Steuben Parade" is named after Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a Prussian General who in 1777 was invited by Benjamin Franklin to help General George Washington turn a bunch of patriotic boys into what would eventually become the Continental Army! Presently, the Parade celebrates the many accomplishments and contributions of the largest group of immigrants to this country, those of Germanic descentaccording to the 2000 census, 1 in 5 Americans is of Germanic descent. Names like Roebling (Brooklyn Bridge), Strauss (clothing), Steinway (pianos), Lindbergh/Erhardt (flight), von Braun (space exploration), Ruth/Gehrig (sports), Pfifer/Dietrich (entertainment), Eisen-hower/Kissinger (diplomacy and politics), and Einstein (physics) are only a select few of those who have contributed so much, not only to what is today's America, but to the rest of the world!

The entire German-American Parade Committee is extremely proud of Carol Alt's many accomplishments and contributions, as it is to have Carol as the 49th Parade Grand Marshal this September 16th.
